Projects

Challenge:

Hand-code a three-tiered (web browser, web server, database) B2C E-Commerce web-store to acquire my ATD in E-Commerce.

Solution:

As Web Architect & Programmer, I defined specific site features catering to both end-user & administrator needs. Subsequently, I developed the information architecture (site map & storyboard) & designed the database structure. Finally, I programmed (hand-coded) all the client & server side scripts for this 5,000 products B2C web store, including database connectivity & queries.

Result:

Complimentary to my previous E-Commerce project management experience, I now had a hands-on understanding of all the technical e-commerce components. Also, the tool's administrative & end-user functionalites went beyond those of VS.Merisel.ca.

Challenge:

Merisel, a fortune 500 distributor of computer products to North American resellers, had an urgent need to develop and deliver a B2B2C E-Commerce solution to its higher education resellers. Given that its main competitor was already offering an E-Commerce tool, Merisel was at risk of losing market share in this segment.

Solution:

As an independant Business Consultant, I analyzed this target market, highlighted some key threats and detailed a 4-pronged program Merisel could implement to help their resellers overcome these threats while simulatneously securing Merisel's marketshare in this segment. Focusing on the E-Commerce component of this program, Merisel created the E-Commerce Manager position and I successfully competed for this posting.

Subsequently, as Project Manager, I led a 15-member team through the entire project lifecycle (design, development & implementation) of this $350,000 / 30,000 products template-driven B2B2C web store.

Result:

Merisel & resellers benefited from improved transaction efficiences, as users served themselves to fresh product, pricing & availability information instead of calling upon their sales representatives. Furthermore, this tool was assessed by resellers as significantly richer in features & performance than competitive offerings. Within 8 months it generated over $440,000 in sales & helped Merisel secure reseller market share.
